The Genius of Photography

This looks like it might be a Good Thing. The new six-part BBC series The Genius of Photography starts on Thursday at 9pm on BBC4. People without some kind of digital TV will be able to see it on BBC2 at a later date, probably next year. The series promises to be a serious history of photography, and will show lots of classic images.

The accompanying book is a hefty hardback with numerous pictures ranging from as early as 1826 to the early 21st century, with detailed background information on many of them. The pictures are accompanied by what would appear to be a detailed history of the development of photography (I haven’t read it yet!). The full price of £25 is a little expensive, but Amazon are offering it at half price at the time of writing. Worth a look of you’re at all interested in photography.

Another week already?

Hmmm. Another minor weight variation today. I was going to walk to work this morning, but I was a bit late getting myself in gear, so I ended up getting the bus[1]. My knees told me not to walk home, so I didn’t.

I’m sticking to the reduced lunch plan – a sandwich and a banana only.

[1] And naturally getting to work about two minutes later than if I’d walked. I may learn one day…

More Doctor Who fun!

The BBC has confirmed the rumour that this year’s Children in Need charity TV thingy will include a Doctor Who special in which the Tenth Doctor (the wonderful David Tennant) will meet one of his previous selves – the Fifth Doctor (the actually quite good Peter Davison). It will be shown at some point in the evening of November 19, and is likely to be quite short, but should be fun.

And if you miss it, I’m sure it’ll turn up on DVD eventually.
