I mentioned eMusic last month, not long after I signed up for the service. After that, I sort of forgot about it for a few weeks, but went back in time to use up my first month’s allowance of tracks. And then I started browsing properly. A Good Thing about eMuisc is the handy “save for later” link on every album – this means that when I find something that I think I might want to listen to properly, I can easily mark it and come back when I’ve got the time and track allowance to spare.

And what a lot of stuff they’ve got! Following links led me to selections on the excellent Beggar’s Banquet label, forever cherished as the home of the Icicle Works, of course. And that led me to an album by Pierce Turner that (a) I don’t have and (b) I didn’t know existed. I have two other albums by Pierce, and love them, so this was moderately exciting for me. A quick listen to the short samples confirmed that I had to have it. And that entirely justified this month’s subscription. Result.

More random clicking led me to the oddly named iLIKETRAINS, a band I’d previously heard of, but not actually heard. Comparisons with the sublimely bonkers Icelandic band Sigur Ros led me to listen to some samples, which persuaded me to grab a couple of albums.

All of this easily used up my 30 tracks, so I upgraded to the next level – an extra £3 a month gives me another 20 tracks, which feels like a good deal at the moment. I plan to do more exploring with eMusic – it’s a great way of finding music that I don’t know.
