Weight and Stuff Report – 24 May 2010

Monday 24 May 2010 19:49
Weight: 226.8 pounds (16 stone 2.8 pounds, 102.9 kg)

Well, I thought yesterday’s weight was unusually low, so I’m surprised at being a pound heavier today.

Today’s picture is another fishy one from Bristol Zoo:

Serious Verbing

Monday 24 May 2010 19:43

It was once observed by the divine Calvin and Hobbes that

Verbing weirds language

Well, according to the not quite divine, but very good HappySad, the practice[1] is not a new one, and he proposes a quite acceptable extension of it:

To happy at Kartoen.be.

[2] I’ve always wanted to say that

Wine Storage

Monday 24 May 2010 19:05

Brian[1] recently asked me about the current state of my wine stocks, so I thought I’d do an update here.

First, there’s the sealed box containing twelve bottles – six of something interesting from Australia, and six of something tasty from Spain. The plan is to leave them where they are until the beginning of 2015, as they should be nicely developed by then. I may add more wine to that selection at some point. I can’t show you that because:

  1. A sealed box isn’t very interesting to look at
  2. It’s in a Secret Location which I’m pretending to have forgotten about[2]

But I can show you my main “drinking rack”. Anything in here is considered available for consumption. It’s a bit low at the moment, but it’s due to be topped up a bit later this week:

The Drinking Rack

The current contents are a mixture of mostly French and Spanish wines, with one each from Italy and Australia. Oh, and that little bottle of Port that I’ll get round to when the time is right.

But there’s more! I also have what I think of as my medium term storage area. This is for bottles I’d like to keep for a while longer – some will be maturing nicely, some are just really good wines that I’d like to keep for a while. My rule on this is that this rack must always be full. If I take something out of here to drink, it has to be replaced. And here it is:

The current mix is similar to the other rack, plus some from Portugal. And yes, I do have one or two bottles of whisky in there.

[1] Hi Brian!
[2] Seriously. If I tell myself it’s not there, I won’t be tempted to open it ahead of time. Or something like that, anyway. :dizzy:
