Hmmm, up again today.
My main reason for going to the coast yesterday was to have a look at the newly opened promenade occupying what used to be the road in front of the Spanish City in Whitley Bay. I’d heard that they’d incorporated lyrics from the Dire Straits song Tunnel of Love, which namechecks the Spanish City, Whitley Bay and Cullercoats. Well, what they’ve done is quite nice – there’s an inset circular area with the words running around it. I’ll have to got back and get some more photos, preferably when it’s looking a bit cleaner, but here’s a sample:
