Hmmm, up again today.

My main reason for going to the coast yesterday was to have a look at the newly opened promenade occupying what used to be the road in front of the Spanish City in Whitley Bay. I’d heard that they’d incorporated lyrics from the Dire Straits song Tunnel of Love, which namechecks the Spanish City, Whitley Bay and Cullercoats. Well, what they’ve done is quite nice – there’s an inset circular area with the words running around it. I’ll have to got back and get some more photos, preferably when it’s looking a bit cleaner, but here’s a sample:

Tunnel of Love

Aperture: ƒ/4.5
Shutter speed: 1/1500s
Focal length: 18mm

The whole inscription reads

And girl it looks so pretty to me, like it always did, like the Spanish City to me when we were kids

And as it happens, I was reminded of another line from the song when I spotted this nearby:

..where the cars they scream and slam

..where the cars they scream and slam

Camera: X-E2
Aperture: ƒ/6.4
Shutter speed: 1/1900s
Focal length: 55mm
ISO: 400
Taken: 19 April, 2014

And if you’re not familiar with the song in question, here’s the delightfully literal music video:

Note: it was the 80s. They did things like that in those days.
