Haven’t you got a Gnome to go to?

BBC NEWS | England | Cornwall | Arrest threat over police gnome

Somehow, I don’t think we’re getting the full story here. There’s probably a load of background detail, things done by someone to someone else, things taken the wrong way and blown out of all proportion, or some such. But when faced with a report like this, none of that really matters.

A man in Cornwall has placed a garden gnome in his own garden, of all places. The report isn’t too precise, but I gather it’s the sort of thing that lights up when people approach. Its owner said he put it there to deter thieves, which doesn’t sound unreasonable to me. Now like most garden gnomes, it’s not what you’d call tasteful, and it is complete with police uniform[1] and a dog, as you can see in the picture on the BBC News page in the link. But I do think it’s going a bit far when the gnome owner’s neighbour (a former police officer) doesn’t just object to it, but makes a formal complaint, leading to the gnome owner being served with a notice for

placing a garden gnome with intent to cause harassment

  :eek2: :uhoh:
