Running the Numbers is some impressive work from Chris Jordan. If you’ve seen those posters or jigsaws where an image is made up of thousands of small photos, you’ll be familiar with the technique. But this is art with a serious purpose – attempting to get across the idea of large numbers in a visual way I’ve never seen before.
For instance, there’s a rendition of Seurat’s La Grande Jatte made up of 106,000 aluminium cans – the number consumed in the US every 30 seconds. You get to see the image and closer views showing how it was created. The full size version is 6 feet by 7 feet, and I’d love to see it.
And there’s more to see on the page – interesting stuff. And even more elsewhere on his site.
