Big Brother is listening…

There seems to be a bit of a theme developing here. After yesterday’s report about security cameras getting a bit shouty comes news that people applying for Housing Benefit will be subjected to “lie detector” tests. Except, of course, they won’t. Voice analysis is very good at detecting stress, which is often associated with lying. But it can also be associated with the natural nervousness of people who need assistance in paying their rent being confronted with a system that’s threatening to analyse their speech. Naturally, the government claims that the system can distinguish between nerves and lies. I remain sceptical…
