Trying something new

This is my first attempt[1] at an HDR image. HD-what, I hear you ask? HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, and it’s a process that allows a wider range of light and shade than is normally possible in a digital image. It’s generally done by taking three or more pictures of the subject – one at normal exposure, one underexposed and one over exposed. By combining these, you can get some quite interesting images. Some look more real than reality, but many have this slightly strange look that I rather like. I’ve been admiring some work I’ve seen on Flickr, and finally got round to giving it a try today.

This was actually created by taking a single RAW image and converting it three times, each converted file having a different exposure value. More experiments may follow…
