This is another picture from last week’s trip to Whitley Bay. I’d seen a few really good photographs which used these wooden thingies to frame or balance the lighthouse on St Mary’s Island. When I got to them, I thought of doing something similar, but decided to go my own way. I thought they made an interesting subject in themselves, so I took a few pictures from a few angles, even going down one one knee in the damp sand at one point. The bird perching on the pole (or stake, or whatever they are) was an added bonus, which gives it a little extra something.
When I came to do something with this one, it screamed “black & white” at me for some reason, so that’s what I did with it. It’s certainly more interesting to me that way.
