February 2008 Round-up

With unprecedented levels of consistency, I’m keeping up with the fascinating end of month reports that you can read instead of all the daily nonsense. Or not.

February 1: 215.0 pounds (15 stone 5 pounds, 97.5 kg)
February 29: 210.8 pounds (15 stone 0.8 pounds, 95.6 kg)

Difference: 4.2 pounds (1.9 kg), which is much better than last month‘s poor showing, and works out to the average of one pound a week that I’d like to see on a more regular basis.

Well, after having far too many sausage rolls, not to mention the sausage and baked bean melt thingies, I’ve been behaving much better. This week, I managed to stick to a sandwich only at lunchtime. I’ve also changed my breakfast habit from porridge to Alpen. Otherwise, I’ve been eating much the same stuff, so it confirms once again that it’s excess junk at lunchtime that puts the pounds on for me. I’ve also cut back to one bottle of wine a week, which is probably helping.

Oh dear. Out of 21 working days this month, I walked to work just twice, and walked home once. Not very good, really. In my defence, I will say that the weather has been quite nasty for much of the month, which tends to put me off walking.

Hmmm. Quite a lot of my usual wittering for much of the month, but I couldn’t get it together to post much in the last week or so. Still, including this post, that’s 60 for February, which isn’t bad for a short month.

Weight Report – 29 February 2008

Well, I suppose it had to happen. After four consecutive days of my weight going down (the longest such run so far this year!), today I am heavier.

But it’s only by a little bit, and I’m still lighter than I was at the start of the week, so it’s not too bad at all.

Weight Report – 28 February 2008

What’s this? Down again? Surely this can’t go on! That’s four days in a row where my weight has gone down, which is a first for this year.

If I can keep this up, I might just get below the psychologicackle 210 pounds/15 stone mark for the first time since 18 August 2006. And I might even be able to go back down a waist size soon, yay!

Weight Report – 27 February 2008

Ooooh, more progress! Today’s weight is not only lower than yesterday’s, making it easily the lowest weight of the year so far, but it’s my lowest recorded weight since 22 August 2006. Yes, 2006. I am officially lighter than I was at any time last year.

I think this sudden burst of progress is down to me getting back (again) to having just a sandwich at lunchtime and possibly to a change in my breakfast habit from porridge to muesli. Either that, or it’s just random oddness.

Weight Report – 26 February 2008

Hmmm. Down again today. Once again, this might be something to do with me not eating much last night, what with being too tired to bother…

Most likely up again tomorrow.

Weight Report – 25 February[1] 2008

And it’s down again for the start of the week! Whatever next?

In other shock news, I actually walked to work today.

[1] Any suggestion that this previously read “January” will be described as a figment of the imagination, or the result of eddies in the space-time continuum

Weight Report – 24 February 2008

As expected, after yesterday’s tiredness and non-eating induced bout of unusual lightness, my weight was back up today, but to a level that’s currently acceptable. Nothing else to add to that, really.

More random muttering soon. Ish. Depending on tuit supplies, of course.

Primeval – Series 2

Regular readers[1] might have been wondering if I was going to follow up my review of the first episode of the series. Well, I did start taking my usual notes, but after a couple of episodes, I realised that I was just going to end up with another backlog of unfinished reviews, and more to the point I was having a lot of fun just sitting back and watching, so that’s what I did.

But now the last episoide has been shown, I thought I’d do a quick summation. Let’s see now, how can I put it…

Woo hoo!!! Yeah!! :dizzy: Great!!

In a brave move, rather than just have the “monster of the week” thing, with a bit of added confusion from the appearances of Helen Cutter, the programme makers made things a lot more interesting this time. Quite apart from some great monsters in public places (Yay, crowd scenes! Lots of people running screaming!!), we had the added fun of a conspiracy. Yes, someone was working behind the scenes with their own secret agenda. Someone with inside information was working against Cutter’s team. This was all nicely confusing. We gradually realised that Helen was involved (no surprises there) and that Lester’s oily sidekick Leek seemed to be working for her. Or with her. Or did he have his own secret plan? Well, yes he did. And it was a suitably bonkers megalomaniacal one involving lots of those lovely future predators fitted with neural shunts (future technology provided by Helen) to enable him to control them.

Then there was the bit about Connor is conned by a beautiful woman who was paid by Leek to pretend to fancy him, the implication being that Connor is far too geeky for anyone to really fancy him, which might have been more believable if Connor wasn’t as photogenic as the rest of the team.

Oh yes, and did I mention lots of lovely monsters? Nice (sabretooth) pussycat, big heffalump (OK, a large mammoth of a non-furry variety[2]), a nasty case of worms, and much more.

It all ended with the serious villain being, if not hoist with his own petard, then at least eaten by his own monsters, a heroic sacrifice by one of the team[3], and Helen not only getting away, but plotting more fun and games. I’m sure her army of thug[4] will come in handy.

[1] Insert suitable levels of
[2] Realistic long fur would probably have doubled the effects budget for the episode
[3] Though given the reality and time distortions we’ve had already, this may not be a permanent departure
[4] Either clones or some other kind of duplicates of the heavy that caused a lot of trouble throughout…[5]
[5] But they’re the same guy, so I thought a singular “thug” seemed appropriate

Weight Report – 23 February 2008

OK, this is definitely a temporary wossname, no doubt related to me being too tired to bother eating dinner last night, and I’m sure I’ll be back up to a more usual figure tomorrow, but today’s weight is the lowest since early February last year. If I can get just half a pound lighter, I’ll be lighter than I was at any time last year. Progress, or something.

Weight Report – 22 February 2008

Heh heh. Just as I expected, today’s weight is a bit higher than yesterday’s. But it’s less than the day before, so it’s no that bad.

I barely got through today without turning into even more of a gibbering loon than I normally am :dizzy:  due to a combination of having a nasty cold and only getting about three hours sleep last night thanks to a particularly enthusiastic wind with some nicely dramatic and incredibly loud gusts. Losing it[1]‘s sleeping quarters are on the top floor and are directly exposed to the prevailing winds. And I do wish they’d go away and prevail somewhere else for a change. I think my wheelie bin may have gone into orbit…
