Whenever I’m in the park with a camera, I try to get a picture or two of the grey squirrels that live there. But being the fast moving, rapidly hiding creatures they are, my efforts have, up till now been in vain. I’ve caught a few grey blurs, the odd bit of a tail, but never an actual squirrel in sharp enough focus to make a good picture. But today, I had some better luck, and this one stayed around long enough for me to get a few pictures. Given the misty conditions, and the need for short exposures, the automatic ISO went up to 3200, so the pictures are a bit noisy, but they do show how well the 5D performs in less than ideal conditions:

and yes, he then ran up the tree:

And I’ve still got some more misty morning pictures to show later…

Well done with capturing the squirrel on film, I have tried for years and never succeeded in the park. I have had more luck in the crematorium where there are fewer people to scare them off but still nothing as good as yours. Have you ever seen a fox in the park? I was in the crem during last autumn and I saw a rather moth-eaten one strolling across the lawn but it must have scented my dog because it ran off pretty quickly towards the park.

Squirrels are certainly hard to catch with a camera – it helped that it was quite early and the park was almost empty, plus a large amount of luck in being at the right place at the right time.

I’ve never seen a fox in the park, but I’ll keep looking!
