I mentioned at the time that Vincent and the Doctor was (and I quote myself) “genuinely affecting”, which I can now admit is typical Les-style understatement for “made me cry”. I’ve just watched it on DVD and it did it again, even though I knew what was coming. If anything, it got to me more the second time.
It has to be said that if I ever got my hands on an actual working time machine, there could be few better uses for it than showing Vincent van Gogh just how much future generations would love his work, even though even that wouldn’t be enough to save him from the darkness.
