Weight and Stuff Report – 9 June 2011

Up again today, mutter.

Had fun getting home today, as the buses had been rerouted because a load of people had taken it into their heads to have a run along the road. Seems a bit silly to me, but I suppose it’s mostly harmless.

Of course, they don’t bother putting signs on bus stops like they used to. Any passengers not keeping up with the bus operator’s website or Farcebook page are probably still standing on Market Street or Grainger Street wondering when the bloody bus is going to arrive. Apparently Nexus are responsible for putting signs on bus stops, and apparently they can’t be bothered. Anyway, I found the bus and enjoyed the scenic route home.

Here’s a picture. It’s just off Newcastle Quayside, it’s a restaurant, and I guess it must have been some sort of council building originally, because that’s the Newcastle coat of arms above the door.

Fortiter Defendit Triumphans

The motto, Fortiter Defendit Triumphans, translates as “Triumphing by brave defence”, and was apparently adopted at the time of the Civil War, when the city defended itself against the Scots.

Not a government building but built as the headquarters of the Tyne-Tees Steam Shipping Company as featured in your photograph yesterday.
