Last May, I muttered about a nasty bit of advertising that had been plastered over that tasteful bit of glass known as Ellipses Eclipses in Newcastle. At the time, I wondered who would be so silly as to authorise what amounted to vandalism on a piece of public art.
Well, now we know. Nobody authorised it at all. The person responsible has now been hauled up in court and fined. He admitted putting up the advert but
claimed he was unaware who owned the city centre landmark
Now that’s a creative defence. So if you don’t know who owns something, you can do what you like with it, apparently.
