Weight and Stuff Report – 6 February 2012

Aha! Back down today, good stuff.

There was enough ice on the ground this morning to put me off any ideas I might have had about walking to work, but I did manage a bit of a walk at lunchtime, as the Garmin evidence shows:

It was another of my random, more or less circular routes, which this time involved a detour to Blackfriars. This nearly involved me taking up skating, as one of the paths turned out to have some very nasty and extremely slippery ice. I managed to keep myself upright and get back to safer ground, which was a relief. The last time I slipped on ice, I was still aching a week or so later, and I prefer to avoid pain, thank you.

After work, I walked up the road to St Nicholas’ Cathedral to get a picture or two of the tower with its fancy new lighting. I was working hand-held with the 25-105mm f/4 lens, so not all the shots came out as well as I’d have liked. Next time I’ll go back with the 70-200mm f/2.8 and get some closer views. And of course, some angles were hopeless because of streetlights getting in the way. But here’s one of the tower:

To my eyes, the sky was a lot less blue than that!

And here’s a closer look at the lantern:

It’s been ages since I did any night photography. Must do some more soonish…
