How surprising

Who’d have thought it? Apparently the opening of the second Tyne Tunnel (which is for vehicles, like the first one) hasn’t had any impact on the number of people using the Shields ferry (which is for pedestrians and the odd cyclist).

The BBC report quotes a spokesdroid mentioning that when the first tunnel opened in 1967, a car ferry service did lose customers. Well, yes. Not quite the same thing, really…
