Weight and Stuff Report – 7 April 2012

What? Up again today? Quite shocking.

After the usual morning shopping trip, I noticed that it was getting a bit brighter, so I decided to go out. My plan was for a brief visit to Segedunum, which now that April is here, is open at weekends, which would be an improvement on my last attempted visit. From there, I planned to go on to Tynemouth for another visit to the Priory.

Well, I got to Segedunum just in time for a free guided tour, which I happily joined. After the tour, I had a bit more of a wander around the site, a look at the museum and the cool sci-fi tower[1], and took a few pictures. I also bought a t-shirt, details of which may follow. By the time I’d done all that, I decided it was a bit late to bother with the Tynemouth part of the plan, and came home.

According to the Garmin thingy, I walked 1.7 miles, which is better than I managed yesterday. I must try to do something more tomorrow…

Segedunum

Segedunum

One of the features of interest at Segedunum is the reconstruction of a Roman bath house, complete with all the rooms (cold, warm, hot, very hot…), and the sauna which has this fountain continuously feeding water into the room. When the furnace is on, this turns to hot vapour, but today it was strictly liquid:

The water on the table is reflecting a brightly-lit window and the deep blue curved ceiling above. The centrepiece is the head of the gorgon Medusa. Apart from the bright window, the light was low, so I had the ISO up to 6,400, a level that would be problematic with a lot of cameras, but appears to have done the job here. As with yesterday’s image, I haven’t applied any noise reduction.
