Sir Patrick Moore, who died today aged 89, was an inspiration to generations of professional and amateur astronomers. He presented the monthly Sky at Night programme on BBC TV fro over 50 years – only missing one show in all that time. Quite apart from that, he wrote many books which taught many people, including me, huge amounts about the universe.
While his death doesn’t really come as a surprise – he’d been looking increasingly frail in his TV appearances, it’s still a sad day. He will be missed.
