Weight and Stuff Report – 16 March 2013

Down again today.

After the usual shopping expedition[1], as the rain had stopped, I decided to have an afternoon out. I started with a brief visit to Newcastle, where an Imperial Stormtrooper was either trying to scare people away from the new Maplin shop, or force them to go in. Once he was reasonably sure I wasn’t one of the droids he was looking for, he let me take his picture.

I'm looking for a couple of droids..

I then took the Metro to South Shields, with no definite aim in mind. I had a quick look in the museum, then walked down to the coastline, where I shunned the amusement park and instead had a walk to the end of the South Pier, which unlike the North Pier, I hadn’t actually walked before. It’s somewhat longer than the North one – a quick map check suggests that it’s very nearly a mile. After that, I walked back[2], then around the coastline where I saw some people having a chat.

I took an alternative route which involved going up rather more stairs than I was expecting, but did let me see a quite large boat:

And then I got the Metro back to Newcastle, where I popped into John Lewis to get a new oven glove[3]. And then I came home.

As I hadn’t really planned a proper walk, I didn’t start the Garmin app, but I’ve plotted my approximate route on Gmap Pedometer, as you can see here. Click the picture to see the interactive version:

[1] Soon to be made into much less of a time destroyer…
[2] Had to really. Jumping across to the North Pier didn’t seem like a good idea
[3] Had to really, the old one has burnt through…

I’m quite happy to tell you that.

I’m lying, obviously, but I won’t let that stop me telling you that, and indeed claiming the points.
