Down again today. After a later than usual start on the shopping expedition, I found I had to delay it further, because this was going on in Gateshead:

Yes, another tower crane is being removed using that seriously impressive mobile crane. I had a good wander around while that section was being moved down to the High Street. More pictures of that later.

After the shopping, I paid a visit to the Shipley Art Gallery, where some actually rather nice contemporary crafty thingies are on show. I was particularly impressed with some interesting glass work and a chair that needs careful examination. The glass consisted of large cylinders with smaller pieces inside them, mostly of a bright green colour, which comes from small traces of uranium. The chair was wooden, and at first sight looked like a very modern thing, with all the vertical sections looking like stacked slices. But from the right angles, you can see through the slices to the shape of a Queen Anne chair within. Well worth a look if you’re in the vicinity.
