Doctor Who – The Rings of Akhaten

Ooooh, I’m a bit late with this one, aren’t I? Just can’t seem to find the tuits…

Anyway, Saturday’s episode was the more or less traditional “first real trip for the new companion” one. Without going into plot details as such, I can say that it involved a visit to a location with a lovely range of aliens, a nicely musical bit, and of course an Unexpected Threat that turns out to be Worse than Expected.

So, nothing exceptional, really. Good fun, but perhaps more interesting for the hints it drops about what’s coming. The Doctor is still trying to work out how he’s managed to meet two Claras already. And he’s come right out and said that he knows secrets that must never be revealed. Lots of scope for speculation there…

Next time, we have Ice Warriors in a submarine[1], written by Mark Gatiss. Now that should be fun.

[1] Which does sound suspiciously like Snakes on a Plane, which is presumably why the title is “Cold War” instead.
