Up a wee bit today, but never mind.
I persuaded myself to get out quite early, walked into Gateshead and got a bus to the MetroCentre. But shopping was not my primary aim – instead, I went over the footbridge to the coach park to see a nice collection of old buses at the North East Bus and Coach Show.
I remember buses of this style from when I was a kid. The Cardiff ones were maroon with cream trim, and probably weren’t identical to this one, but the general arrangement is the same:
On the other hand, I don’t recall ever seeing one of these. This single-deck bus was converted to an open-top thingy for touring, and is apparently quite rare:
This isn’t actually a bus, but it turned up anyway:
After having a good look at all the buses on show, I did have a quick look around the shops, as it had been quite a long time since my last visit. It’ll probably be just as long before my next one, as it wasn’t all that interesting, really.
I then got the bus back to Gateshead, and had a wander around the edges of the new town centre development. Most of the boards and things have come down, and it’s all looking like it’s really going to be ready for the opening in just under three weeks. The new access route from Jackson Street is looking quite inviting. Well, apart from the metal barriers closing it off, that is.
More pictures to come…
Contrary to popular rumour, I was one once
I think it was on a Tuesday
