Weight and Stuff Report – 17 June 2013

Down a bit today, good stuff.

I went for a short walk at lunchtime – I didn’t have time for a proper one, what with being short of staff this week and having a meeting. I took the Fujifilm X-E1 with me and did some random photography, more of which will appear when my tuit supply improves. This is a nicely silly cycle rack on Collingwood Street:

Camera X-E1
Aperture ƒ/4.5
Shutter speed 1/110s
Focal length 44.4mm
ISO 200

Location 54° 58.1827′ 0″ N 1° 36.8385′ 0″ W

That’s an unadjusted, straight out of camera JPG, for those who like to know the details. On the other hand, this photo of the nicely restored[1] Stephenson statue[2] was created from a raw file. It’s had quite extreme use of the highlights and shadows sliders, a bit of cloning and a few other tweaks.

Here’s the walk – click the map for more details on the Garmin Connect site:

More photographs to come!

[1] Which hasn’t stopped birds from marking it. Naughty birds[3]
[2] Which I suspect is going to be moved a bit as part of all the entertaining road works around Newcastle station..
[3] Not to be confused with Angry Birds

I love that bike rack, so much so that I took a picture of it myself a couple of weeks ago on my way back from the Union Rooms. Mine might have been a bit blurrier than yours as a result of my session in the pub or perhaps I should just give the lens a clean. I wish they would hurry up and shift all that building junk from around poor George Stephenson. It seems like as soon as they gave him a good wash and brush up they turned his monument into a builder’s yard.

I think George is going to be surrounded by junk until the whole Central Gateway thing is finished. From the plans I’ve seen, it looks like the road between his traffic island and the Union Rooms will be paved over and rerouted on the other side.
