And here I am, back from Manchester. As the department was even more short-staffed than expected, I left earlier than planned, and got the 12:30ish train, which should have got me back to Newcastle just after 3pm. Which it didn’t, of course. It developed what were described as “technical difficulties”. They tried turning it off and on again, which remarkably didn’t work. Eventually, they did some more fiddling, and after a delay of twenty minutes or so, the train moved on to Leeds, and then to York, where they decided to give up and kick us all off. Mutter.
This wouldn’t normally be a big issue, as there are plenty of trains from York to Newcastle. But as it happened, there was a problem further south which meant that all the East Coast trains were delayed. There were a few London-bound trains stuck at York, with no indication that they’d be leaving any time soon…
But I only had to wait about forty minutes for a train, and got to Newcastle only an hour later than I’d planned. Mutter.
Today’s picture is an interesting plaque I spotted in Manchester:
Yes, that’s exactly what you think it is.
Any suggestion that I didn’t find a suitable tuit for this post until Thursday will, of course, be denied
Literally. Total power down, lights off, etc
