Monthly Archives: November 2013

November 2013 Round-up

What? November’s over already? Who’d have thought it? Anyway, that means it must be time for this.

Weight

November 7: 219.4 pounds (15 stone 9.5 pounds, 99.6 kg)
November 30: 220.4 pounds (15 stone 10.4 pounds, 100 kg)

That’s a rise of one pound (0.5kg), which is really within normal fluctuation levels.

Eating

I’ve mostly been moderately good. Generally.

Exercise

I’ve had a few weekend walking sessions this month. The most impressive of which were in the last two days…

Posting

A slightly more chatty month, with the total coming to 56.

Stuff

I became slightly more Fujified this month. More on that when I find the tuits…

Weight and Stuff Report – 30 November 2013

Down again today, in another burst of randomness.

After doing my usual shopping, I decided it was a good day to go out somewhere. I’d originally planned to go to South Shields for a wander, but when I got to the Metro station, there was a twenty-something minute wait for the next train there, so I went to Wearside instead. I got off at Seaburn, and before going to the seafront, I had a look at Fulwell Windmill. It’s been seven years since I last visited, and since then it’s fallen on hard times. The once gleaming white mill is now dull and greying, and the once perfect sails are battered and broken. Such a shame to see it this way. It seems it was badly damaged by storms, and has had to be closed for safety reasons. A report from last year mentions the council were trying to get funds to repair it.

On my way to the seafront, I spotted some curious things, such as this lovely shopfront:

And this oddly specific sign:

I had a bit of a walk along the coast as far as Roker Pier, then got a bus into Sunderland and a Metro home.

Useful directions

I had a bit of a walk along the coast between Seaburn and Roker today. Details and more photos to follow[1], but I thought I’d share this useful signpost right now

It might be a bit tricky to walk it…

[1] Along with some delayed daily reports, and other bits and bobs.

Ed Alleyene-Johnson

On a previous visit to York, I was captivated by the violin playing of Ed Alleyne-Johnson, so much so that I bought a few of his albums soon afterwards. So I was quite pleased yesterday when I rounded a corner and could hear his distinctive sound again. On this occasion I had the time to stay and listen for a while, and get a few photos.[1]

I thought Ed’s distinctive purple violin deserved this treatment:

And here’s a look at his arrays of effects pedals

[1] And to put some money in his case. I do think it’s bad form to photograph buskers and not give them something…

Baaaaa!

Proper report of today’s trip to York to follow, but I just had to post this:

It’s a little disturbing to realise that such a sign is necessary. And that’s assuming “sit on” isn’t a euphemism, of course.

Weight and Stuff Report – 29 November 2013

Up again today, which is another random wossname, probably.

I had a day off today, and decided to make the most of it. After a quick trip into Gateshead for some bits, and quite possibly bobs, I took myself to York for the day. I started with a wander around the city. I had a play with the fisheye lens on the X-E2:

And then took a few photos of Constantine, including this one:

After listening to the excellent Ed Alleyene-Johnson[1] for a while, I continued walking past a sheep[2], then stopped for some lunch at the station[3]. From there, I went over the footbridge for a look at the National Railway Museum. My main reason for going this time was to see the exhibition of railway-themed photos from the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. There was some excellent work on show, and I was so impressed I bought the book in the museum shop.[4] Of course, I had a look at some engines too. Currently three of the A4s are on show, carrying on the Mallard theme:

All six will appear together again at the Museum’s other site at Shildon in the spring of 2014.

After that, I decided it was time to go home, so got the next available train to Newcastle.

[1] Note: this link goes to a post that was created later than the date of this post. Things are getting a bit wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey around here. Either that, or I’m behind with my daily posts again.
[2] Another time warp!

[4] Note: when visiting free museums, I think it’s a Good Thing to either make a donation or buy something while you’re there, especially if they let you take photographs

Weight and Stuff Report – 28 November 2013

Down by a slight random amount today. Not a lot to say, it’s been another day at work…

Here’s a slightly different view of the Continental Market thingy by Grey’s Monument. Note to self: take the lens hood next time…

Weight and Stuff Report – 27 November 2013

Up a wee bit today, which was another one with only a quick trip out at lunchtime.

Here’s another bit of Newcastle after dark.

Weight and Stuff Report – 26 November 2013

Aaaaand back down again today. My weight seems to be in Tigger mode again…

Not a lot of activity, or much to report right now, so here’s another picture of Newcastle after dark. This shows part of the Christmas market and the city’s lights…

Weight and Stuff Report – 25 November 2013

Up again today, how random…

I didn’t walk much at lunchtime, but I did linger in town after work to get some low-light shots with the X100S. I quite like this one of the Theatre Royal, with the motion blurred people passing by…
