Stuff Report – 4 November 2013

After yesterday’s lazy day, my brother[1] and I went out today. We headed into Cardiff, where Geoff did some shopping, I took some photographs and we both had coffee and a toasted teacake in the excellent Plan Café in the Morgan Arcade. After that we went to Penarth for a walk along the seafront and the refurbished pier, and after that we had a brief visit to Barry Island before returning to Pencoed. A proper set of photos will follow when I’m in front of my large screen, but here are a couple for now.

Cardiff has a number of Victorian shopping arcades – predecessors of modern shopping malls, so to speak. Unlike a lot of places, most of these arcades have been preserved, restored and are full of small independent shops rather than the usual high street chains. I took this photo from outside the Plan Café while we were waiting for the coffee and teacakes to arrive:
