Monthly Archives: January 2014

January 2014 Round-up

Well, that’s the first month of 2014 washed away[1], so it must be time for the traditional summary, or as I like to think of it, the post that saves you reading the rest of my nonsense.

Weight

It’s been a month of downs and ups, with the ups sneakily arriving at the end to make things look worse.

January 1: 224 pounds (16 stone, 101.6 kg)
January 31 : 224.5 pounds (16 stone 0.5 pounds, 101.8 kg)

Now that’s a moderately insignificant rise of 0.5 pounds (0.2kg), but I’d like to mention that I was four pounds lighter a week ago. Though that might be the scale playing games, of course.

Eating

Apart from the occasional[2] breakfast at Frankie & Benny’s, I’ve been moderately moderate this month.

Exercise

Only three decent weekend walks, but the weather has been a bit soggy, which isn’t ideal for that kind of thing.

Posting

This little report brings the monthly total to just 34, the lowest since I had a quiet spell towards the end of 2010. But that’s mostly because I’ve been using what might have been posting time for something else, details of which may well follow, once I decide how to report it…

Stuff

To be revealed!

[1] It has been a wee bit damp, you know
[2] OK, weekly

Weight and Stuff Report – 31 January 2014

Hmmm, no change today…

And as it’s the end of the month, it’s time for a hint[1] about that project I’ve been mentioning. Here it is[2]:

Hmmmm....

Hmmmm….

[3] Errr, do we[5] have many of those, or were they all so astute they looked once and never came back?

Weight and Stuff Report – 30 January 2014

Up again today. And I had even less of a walk at lunchtime today. Must get it together again, once I work out what it is that I need to get together, and indeed where I put it. Or something.

Today’s photo is a slightly mucked about with one of a quiet street in Durham near the cathedral. I’ve edited out the odd sign, burglar alarm and tv aerial to make it a bit timeless, or something.[1]

[1] I should probably stop saying that. Or something.[2]
[2] Ooops

Weight and Stuff Report – 29 January 2014

Mutter, up again today. But I’m sure I herald the scale giggling, so it may be having more fun with me…

Today’s photo is another one from Durham. This old church is now home to a museum showing  the history of the city, and is worth a visit. Though it was closed when I was there not long ago…

Weight and Stuff Report – 28 January 2014

Hmm, up again today, and the scale seems to have gone back to its odd habit of fluctuating wildly before deciding on a number to settle on. Mutter.

Today’s photo is one of the plaques below the statue of Lord Armstrong, showing some of his work, in particular the Swing Bridge:

Weight and Stuff Report – 27 January 2014

Hmm, back up a bit after the weekend low figures, but the overall trend thingy is still downward, so that’s ok.

It was one of those days when I didn’t get a chance to get out at lunchtime[1], so the step count is particularly low. Maybe more tomorrow…

Today’s photo is another detail of The Journey, in Durham:

Weight and Stuff Report – 26 January 2014

Up by the smallest detectable amount this morning, but never mind. I’m having a low-activity Sunday today. After posting this, I’ll be watching some of last week’s TV, quite possibly a movie or two, and probably spending some time on my Secret Project[1], which I may get round to talking about at some point. Or not, depending on how it goes.

Today’s photo is a quite aggressively mucked about with[2] image of the statue of Lord Armstrong in front of the Hancock Museum. After some quite wild slider movement in Lightroom, I popped it into Silver Efex Pro for a monochrome conversion, then back into Lightroom for a crop and a few minor tweaks.

Weight and Stuff Report – 25 January 2014

Shock horror, down again to the lowest level of the year so far. Good stuff, etc.

The forecast was for rain today, but even more rain tomorrow, so I decided to put of the washing to Sunday, and try to do something with today. I had vague notions of buying a shirt or two, but got distracted and had a more general look around instead. I did buy a couple of small items relating to my Secret Project, which I’m still not talking about, so there.

After that, I came home. And here I am.

Today’s photo is an interesting bout of decor in Durham:

This is an out of camera JPG from the X-E2, for those who like to know the details.

Weight and Stuff Report – 24 January 2014

Hmmm, up a wee bit today, in what’s probably another random wossname.

Today’s photo is another one from Durham, which has been given a slapping around with Silver Efex Pro, a panoramic-style crop in Lightroom and a few other tweaks.

WordPress 3.8.1 is out, but…

No, I’m not telling you to avoid it like a thing that should be avoided.

It’s just that if your server normally lets you update from the console, without having to enter FTP credentials, or other incantations, then you shouldn’t need to do anything at all. The new background updates feature introduced with WordPress 3.8 is in full operation, and all point releases should be automagically updated for you.

As this is the first “live” point update[1], it’s being rolled out relatively slowly rather than in one mad rush, so your sites may not update immediately. This site was updated in the last couple of minutes, and I didn’t feel a thing. Tiggercam has also been done, though Tigger didn’t bother to let me know…

WordPress 3.8.1 is a maintenance, bug-squashing release, which you can read about in the usual place:

Or you can just relax and let the software look after itself.
