While I’m not planning to go into a lot of plot details, it’s likely that the random mutterings that follow will reveal some things you might prefer not to know if you haven’t seen the episode yet, so in my usual way, I’ll include this warning:
Now this was interesting – any episode that starts with the Doctor alone, talking to himself and generally getting quite wound up has a certain something. And it was a very different, more intense Doctor that we saw. The Doctor wants to know the truth about something – are those dreams or odd feelings that someone – something – is watching us actually true? Is there really something under the bed?
Taking Clara away, he begins to investigate, and much confusion follows, not least in the parallel story of Clara and Danny’s first, and quite dreadful date, where they both take the art of saying exactly the wrong thing to a quite impressive level.
Clara gets tied in to the Tardis’s previously unseen psychic circuits so she can guide it to a key point in her past. In a development that comes as no surprise, she gets a bit distracted, and it’s not her past that she visits.
And there’s fun at the end of time with an astronaut, err, chrononaut, who appears to be a descendant of Danny. And is there something nasty out there?
And is if all that wasn’t enough, Clara takes the Tardis to a key point in someone else’s past, and we learn something new…
Clever stuff – a story that started out looking like it was going to be about one thing turned out to be something quite different, and in a good way.
