Now there’s a surprise! Back up today after yesterday’s slightly unbelievable low figure…
I had some vague plans to go a bit further afield today, but after thinking about train times and remembering that roads will be closed and several million people will be in the way from early evening, which meant that getting home would be annoying, I decided not to bother.
So, I went into Newcastle, called in at the Centre for Life, where the current main event is the Body Worlds exhibition. This is a fascinating, if slightly unsettling display of preserved human bodies arranged in various ways to show their inner workings. Only it’s more complicated than that. Worth a visit.
I then decided to have a quick trip to Seaburn for a look along the coast – I’d planned this a few weeks ago, only to have it disrupted by a problem on the Metro. So yeah. Got the Metro. And the Metro had just left Pelaw when it stopped and the driver announced that for reasons that he hadn’t been told, the service to Sunderland had been suspended. And so the train made a non stop detour to just before Jarrow, where the driver got out and went to the other end and took us back to Pelaw (presumably this was the first point where it could be switched to the other track.
By the time it got back to Pelaw, I’d decided to abandon my plans as (a) the delay had been enough to mess them up a bit and (b) it was raining quite a lot. So I got back to Gateshead on the next Metro to turn up, where it seemed the rain hadn’t bothered to turn up. And after popping into Tesco’s for some supplies, I came home.
Here’s a photo I took this morning of some odd vegetation. I’ve no idea what this is, but it looked interesting…
