Down again today…
As it was more than a little damp, I decided against attempting a visit to the Sunderland air show today. Looks like that was a good decision, as the weather did prevent a number of displays from happening (Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Sally B, the Falcons, the Blades), not to mention being dull and grey.
But I wanted to do something, so I went to York, having noticed that you can now get a day return for just £18, so long as you travel on Cross Country trains. As that’s less than half the usual cost, that’s a good deal – and Cross Country run enough services for it not to be a major issue. When I got to the platform, there was actually a train waiting, but it was very crowded , so having had a quick look, I got off and moved to the next platform, and waited about five minutes for a much less crowded train.
By the time I got to York, there was no rain in sight. I started with a look around the National Railway Museum, then had a moderately long walk around the city before getting a train back to Newcastle and coming home.
Here’s one from today. This is the rather lovely Merchant Adventurers Hall:
