September 2017 Round-up

Well, September has ended. I’m sure there’s a Green Day joke I’m supposed to do there, but let’s just assume I did, and we’ve all groaned and moved on. Yes, it’s the end of the month, which means it’s time for this old thing:

Yet more fluctuations, with more exciting new lows for the year

September 1: 234.7 pounds (16 stone 10.7 pounds, 106.5 kg)
September 30: 230.5 pounds (16 stone 6.5 pounds, 104.6 kg)

That’s a moderately impressive drop of 4.2 pounds (1.9kg), which is an improvement on last month. And if the month had ended last Sunday, it would have been a surprisingly large drop of 6.1 pounds (2.8kg). Must get to work on the revised calendar…

Still eating, but I can reveal my cunning weight loss plan: I’ve cut down on wine. By quite a lot.

Only a couple of proper trips out this month, but I was working all last weekend..

A moderately sane 38 posts this month.

Errr, nope. No stuff.

Weight and Stuff Report – 30 September 2017

Weight: 230.5 pounds (16 stone 6.5 pounds, 104.6 kg)
Steps: 6,945

Down again today. Heaver than last weekend, but still on an overall downward trend thingy.

After the usual shopping, I had a quick trip into Newcastle to buy a new microwave oven, as the old one had decided to take up a new career as an illuminated turntable, and wasn’t going to do that old-school heating food thing any more. Mutter.

Then I had a trip to Tynemouth, had a wander round the market, a quick look out to sea before deciding I wasn’t feeling all that inspired and came home.

While I was there, I did have a rare play with the 300mm mirror lens, and was again reminded that it’s not worth it unless it’s a nice sunny day. But this came out reasonably well:

Well, back from Leeds and heavier. Nothing to do with last night’s wee drinkie and dinner, or this morning’s hotel breakfast, just random thinginess, I’m sure…

As the weather’s getting a bit colder, this should be welcome, as it’s a little otter, and no I’m not sorry for that one at all

Today’s report comes from the Novotel in Leeds[1], where I’m spending a few days doing work stuff that I won’t go into, so there. And yes, I’m a wee bit heavier today, ho hum, etc.

Here’s someone even older than me:

Weight and Stuff Report – 25 September 2017

In a quite predictable development, today’s weight is up after the lows of the weekend. But it’s still less than a week ago, or indeed two weeks ago, so it’s not all bad…

Talking of not all bad, the office phones survived the weekend’s fun and games.

Here’s another view of what I apparently need to specify is the statue of Cardinal Hume rather than the late man himself. Mutter.

Weight and Stuff Report – 24 September 2017

Weight: 228.6 pounds (16 stone 4.6 pounds, 103.7 kg)
Steps: 4,519

Well, I thought yesterday’s low weight would be one of those temporary wossnames, but apparently not, as today’s weight is even lower. So that’s another new low for the year.

I had more fun with phones today. After more conference calling, where a more technical technical person diagnosed the general nature of the problem, which was of the “this will take time, effort and cable tracing to actually track down” variety, it was agreed to stop trying that, and I’d get on with setting them up manually, which I did. This took something approaching two hours. Towards the end of the process, I found Something Odd, not to mention Deeply Wrong with a side order of What the Photon. In a meeting room, someone had taken a cable connected to the data network and plugged it into the “computer” port on the phone (this is intended to allow a computer to be plugged in to connect to the network through the phone, not to be connected to a wall port. I’ve no idea who did this, much less why, which is probably just as well[1]. Removing that cable fixed the problem that an embarrassingly large number of people had been working on for far too long. So, I undid the manual configuration and put the phones back to automatic. Which worked.

Shame I didn’t start at the other end of the office, really…

But hey, never mind, etc. Only 11 hours in the office this weekend, not to mention the 5 hours working from home on Friday evening…

On a happier note, here’s a photo of Hylton Castle’s chapel:

OK, good bits first – that’s another new low for the year, though it was recorded when I’d just got home from a longer than expected day in the office (10:30 – 17:00), as what should have been a few quick tests turned into a protracted bout of trying to persuade a thingy to do something so other thingies could work[1], which involved a lot of waiting for things to happen, long conference calls and in the end a lack of success. So I’m going back tomorrow. Not quite what I had in mind for the weekend. Oh, and that was after doing the earlier bits of it last night until past 10pm…

Perhaps I should take up an easier job, like protecting innocent dragons from rampaging Georges like this one
