Down again after yesterday’s odd increase.
Having got my shopping done extra-early, I was out before 10am with a plan. I decided it was time for a return to Redcar, partly for the fresh air, and partly to give the X70 an outing. I managed to get a seat on a crowded train as far as Darlington, then had a wait for the deluxe cattle truck to Redcar, passing through Middlesbrough. Once at Redcar, I walked down to the sea front and had a nice wander. Here’s the view out to sea, with a rare appearance of me. Well, my shadow, anyway.
This time, the lift in the Beacon was working, so I was able to go up and enjoy the view and even fresher air. Then I walked a bit further, and started to wonder why there seemed to be so many people loitering. They couldn’t all be waiting for a bus, so I guessed something must be happening, and indeed it was. I was just in time to see a parade of biker Santas. Or was it Santa bikers? Either way, there were loads of them, including this slightly unusual vehicle:
Nothing was going to top that, so I decided to call it a day and got the next train back to Darlington, which arrived just in time for me to get on a train to Newcastle.
Fortunately, long experience has taught me where to get on a Cross Country train to have the best chance of blagging an unreserved seat
